‘Art, Honor and Success in The Dutch Republic’ nominated for the Karel van Manderprijs 2024 awards
The prestigious award honours art historical research from different periods. The winner will be announced on Art History Day, at the end of October 2024.
About Art, Honor and Success in the Dutch Republic
Noorman’s Art, Honor and Success in the Dutch Republic: The Life and Career of Jacob van Loo (2020) argues that Jacob van Loo's success and reputation were sustained by his specialization in nudes and his honorable status, even after a manslaughter conviction, and contrasts this with the shorter-lived success of his contemporaries, such as Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Vermeer.
